Protecting the Environment

As a lifelong Minnesotan, I proudly practice traditional ways with deer hunting, fishing, and harvesting wild rice with my family. Every spring, I walk with my Indigenous relatives from St Louis River Corridor to Lake Superior, where we sing songs to the land, water, air, and people of Misaabekong, to honor the people and place of the past, those living in the present, and those dreaming the future. Protecting the earth our home is core to my being.

Environmental degradation and climate change threaten our shared future, and Northeastern Minnesota, with our resource-based economy and heavy reliance on fossil fuels, is placed particularly at risk. The stakes are high and the moment demands clear, decisive action to meet the scale of our problems and to move us to a clean energy future that includes and protects everyone, especially those most vulnerable. Minnesota can and must be a leader on this front by urgently achieving 100% Clean Energy, building a clean energy economy with high-quality jobs, safeguarding pollinators, and protecting our natural environment.

Here’s what I’ll fight for as your state legislator:

  • We must ensure a just transition plan that invests and implements 100% clean energy, ends pollution, protects our air and water, and creates a future that is sustainable for all Minnesotans no matter where they live.

  • We must also repair systemic injustices caused by economic inequality and racial discrimination, honoring Tribal sovereignty, land rights, and Tribal consultation in addressing environmental issues and stewardship.

  • We also need to invest in climate resilient and green infrastructure, and invest more to protect and restore the health of our water, our soil, and our land.

  • Expanded and equitable resources for lead safe homes, weatherization, and energy rehabilitation for renters and homeowners to improve neighborhood equity and sustainability.

  • Strengthen and enforce our environmental protection laws and hold polluters accountable for the messes they create because clean-up costs shouldn’t fall on taxpayers.

  • Public lands belong to all of us and I will collaborate with hunters, anglers, hikers, bikers, campers, and all peoples to support programs and initiatives that allow every person in Minnesota access and opportunity to enjoy meaningful experiences outdoors.

  • Supporting Prove it First legislation to protect our water
